The Characters Of Larkwood Forest

Larkwood forest is the home of Cedar the fox, Rowan the rabbit and Hazel the mouse. Oh, and then there’s Olive the kitten. Strictly speaking, Olive doesn’t live in the forest, but right on the edge of it, in a little cottage with some extremely nice human folk. Speaking of human folk there’s also Rose, Amber and Bluebell who love to spend time in the wooded forest with their animal friends. Larkwood forest is a lovely place to live. To get there, you need to walk past the village and down the well trodden woodland trail lined with birch trees. Once you arrive deep in the ancient forest, you will see lots of different types of trees including oaks and willows, some of which have ferns and lichens growing on the base. Here you can hear the beautiful song of the woody warbler and other birds. The animals of Larkwood forest absolutely adore living here and wouldn’t dream of moving anywhere else.

Rowan the rabbit

Rowan the rabbit lives on the far side of Larkwood in a lovely little meadow filled with wild flowers. He spends his mornings collecting the wild flowers, herbs and grasses to take home to his underground burrow where he can store them, ready to eat for lunch. Rowan is a very amiable chap indeed. You can rely on him to cheer you up when you are feeling sad with a terrible joke or two and always has a smile on his face.

Cedar the fox

Cedar the fox lives in a comfy house in the ground called a den, near a large oak tree. Having an oak tree close by is rather handy, as Cedar loves to collect useful things in his travels and the oak tree makes a super place to store his found objects. Cedar is also a bit of a clever cloggs. He always knows what to say at the precise moment. Actually he knows lots of big words from the copy of the The Oxford dictionary he has on his bookshelf.

Hazel the mouse

Hazel the mouse lives in a cosy underground burrow where she keeps nice and warm and has lots of space for her tasty treats. Her favourite food is berries, seeds and mushrooms. She doesn’t like the rain very much and tends to stay indoors until it stops. She loves to go foraging, especially when the moon is out, where she gets a chance to have a catch up and a chat with her nocturnal friends.

Olive the kitty

Olive the kitten lives in a snug little house with a family of human folk. She loves to stroll down the bottom of the garden and jump over the fence that leads in to the woods. She spends the day playing with her animal friends and chasing moths and butterflies. Until she feels peckish that is, that is when she returns to her cosy home, just in time for a fishy dinner. Olive is a daring soul. She loves to jump, skip and explore and always seems to be getting in to a spot of bother!

Amber

Amber loves to climb trees, especially large oak ones, which are perfect places to look and listen out for wildlife. Her little house overlooks ancient woodland that comes to life in spring. Spring is her favourite season; she loves to listen to the insects buzzing and the call of the cuckoo and to say hello to her animal friends who have just woken up after sleeping all winter.

Bluebell

Bluebell knows a thing or two about gardening. Her little cottage garden might be small but really is rather impressive, especially the organic vegetable patch. Rowan the rabbit is her neighbour and pops by occasionally for cabbages and carrots. Bluebell is also a very good baker, and makes a mean carrot cake that goes down a storm with all her friends in the forest.

Rose

Rose is extremely good at making things out of twigs and bits of willow that have fallen to the ground. Once she made a lovely chair out of twisted willow branches. In her spare time, she likes to write stories. They are rather good stories. In fact, she managed to get a book contract from a publishing company for her first novel, ‘A midsummer mystery in the woods’.
